Gangore Festival of Haryana and Rajasthan

Gangaur festival celebrates the union of Shiva and Parvati, and the harvest season. It is celebrated in March by the women in Bhiwani, Haryana. That said, these days it also celebrated across many states in India especially Rajasthan.

Gangore is celebrated in the month of April dedicating to Goddess Gauri or Parvati. Ladies in Bhiwani prepare idols of Gangore and Isharji and dress them with fine fabrics and decorate beautifully. 

It is celebrated for sixteen days and during this period young girls and newly married women perform various folk song and dances to increase aura of celebration.

The festival usually begins by women sowing wheat in earthen pots and watering it religiously until the seeds start germinating, this is a very important ritual of the festival.  On the 7th day the unmarried women carry the pots on their heads with a lamp lit inside and are blessed by elders with gifts.Unmarried women worship Goddess Gauri for own choice of husband while married women prays for long life of their husband.
